Cleaner Energy? Wholesale Pricing? Non-Existent Electric Bills? Solarize Chester/Deep River has begun!

Solarize Chester Ambassadors

By Caitlin O’Donnell

Tuesday night Chester and Deep River residents joined C-TEC Solar Professionals, the Chester Energy Team and SmartPower to discuss the next 18 weeks of clean energy excitement that will be coming to the southeastern part of our state.

The Solarize Chester/Deep River program is an opportunity for residents of both towns to lease, finance or purchase residential solar at a reduced pricing throughout the length of the program. Town officials offered solar companies throughout the state the opportunity to submit proposals for consideration. Final selection was not only based on pricing, but also quality of installations, quality of materials and warranties.

First Selectwoman Lauren Gister started the night off with the extensive list of initiatives that the Energy Team has enacted to make Chester the environmentally conscious town that it has grown to become. In Chester alone there are already dozens of Solar PV systems in place:

  • 154 kW Chester Residential Solar Systems
  • 6kW Solar System at Town Hall
  • 10 kW Solar System at Chester Elementary School
  • 16 kW Solar System at United Church
  • Solar System Installed at Camp Hazen Dining Hall

And soon to be many more with this Solarize Event!

*Included in these numbers are Pat Woomer (Chairman of the Chester Energy Team) and Sandy Prisloe (Energy Team Member), both Solar System owners in town. Sandy and Pat spoke individually about their successful experiences with going solar.

C-TEC Solar General Sales Manager, Jeff Pipeling, then educated the masses with a presentation of facts and figures on the general solar process, rebates and incentives, financing options and of course our unprecedented customer care. Pipeling concluded by quoting Solar Ambassador Dean Jacques in saying that in terms of going solar “It’s just the right thing to do.”

Over refreshments, Chester and Deep River homeowners merged with the C-TEC team to spend time becoming acquainted and going over any questions residents had. The enthusiasm was boundless as the crowd trickled out of Old Town Hall to embark upon the new partnership between Chester, Deep River and C-TEC Solar.
