The apartment-renting business can be very competitive. Management companies continually look to lower expenses without compromising services. Pat Keane, Director of Operations for Hillside Terrace Apartments in Vernon, Connecticut knows this all too well. “Many apartments in the area use natural gas, a less expensive fuel, to heat their hot water. We were using oil and the rapidly rising costs were making it more difficult for us to compete,” explained Keane.
Keane researched his options. He reviewed many proposals for a solar thermal hot water system to lower energy costs. He chose C-TEC Solar.
Keane said, “I chose C-TEC Solar because of their excellent reputation. Their onsite project management was excellent and they finished ahead of schedule. This system is expected to save us over $10,000 annually in energy costs and help us keep our rents competitive.” Mickey Toro, owner of C-TEC Solar added, “We designed, installed and monitor the 80-panel system, which was installed across four buildings. Working with the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA), we were able to access all the State and Federal rebates available for the client, which made the cost of the project very attractive. Solar thermal technology uses approximately 70% less energy than traditional hot water heating systems. People are starting to take advantage of its financial benefits.”
Ribbon-cutting ceremony planned
Hillside Terrace Apartments has received its certificate of occupancy from the town and has met all State requirements. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for the end of May. Federal, state and local officials as well as the media will be invited to get a firsthand look at the system.
