Solar Hot Water

Does the building or home have to face south?

No, unlike photovoltaic panels, solar hot water panels do not have to face directly due south. Panels can be mounted up to 30 degrees off due south. And, solar hot water panels are very flexible when it comes to installation location.

Why should I purchase a solar hot water system by C-TEC Solar?

If you use hot water year round then solar hot water should be your first choice when considering a renewable energy. The payback time and cost of this type of energy system is very low, making it a high return on investment.

Can a solar hot water system be installed to heat my hot water if we have a boiler?

Yes. A solar hot water system will generate large savings. First, an indirect hot water system needs to be installed. This system will stop your boiler from running frequently, thereby saving you a substantial amount of money each year.

Is it practical in New England to have a solar hot water system?

Yes, it is very practical and cost efficient to have a solar hot water system by C-TEC Solar in New England. As long as the proper system is selected to match the area’s climate, solar thermal technology is an excellent and practical investment.

Can I get rid of my current hot water system if I install a solar hot water system?

Unfortunately, no, but 70%-80% of your hot water can be provided by the sun. Although there are times (like the summer months) when your solar hot water system will provide 100% of your hot water, you will need the existing system during the colder months to supplement solar hot water.

Will solar panels ruin the look of my home or commercial building?

The solar hot water collectors that C-TEC Solar supplies are designed with overall esthetics in mind. Some of the panels we install are designed to look like skylights while others — like evacuated heat tubes — have more of a futuristic look. Not only will solar panels not hurt the look of your property, but it will also raise its value! Your monthly energy cost will be reduced making the property more attractive to future prospective buyers.

How does a solar hot water system by C-TEC Solar work?

A solar collector absorbs solar radiation. The copper inside the solar collector heats up and transfers the energy to a fluid that circulates through the panel. This fluid travels down to the heat transfer tank where, once again, the energy is transferred to a storage tank to be used as needed. Solar hot water systems are so efficient that up to 80% of your hot water needs can be provided by a solar hot water system!
